Biography

Cherry Thompson is a painter and illustrator originally from England. She travelled the globe searching for a sumptuous place that included sea, mountains and a futuristic city. Cherry now lives in Vancouver, BC. While she grew up surrounded by British countryside, she has spent most of her adult life planted among cities all over the planet. This is particularly evident in some of her latest work.

With a surrealist focus on the beauty and strength of the female form, Cherry's subjects have a robotic emphasis due to the ever-present belief that in the future there will be a new form of humanity desperately trying to bring back what was lost.

At the heart of her work is an exploration of the human condition and its relation (or detachment) with the natural and man-made world around us. The creatures and natural forms that she studies are those with deep roots in the early life of the planet. Yet, they've evolved with such a strong presence to hold deep power over the emotions of humans for hundreds of years.

Cherry is not only greatly influenced by her many adventures in space and time but also tall tales, independent films, history, science fiction novels, comics and the pop culture that drives all human beings to lead immersive and rich lives.

With a successful 10 year photography career, where she has been described as 'spilling light', Cherry strives to bring her experience in capturing intimate, fleeting moments and a cinematic aesthetic to her oil paintings and graphite illustrations.
